Kelp Process: Step 2

So I put the clay into the plaster molds, but it didn’t work because when the plaster got wet it reactivated it, and the clay stuck to the plaster…making it really hard to peel off.

I had to think of an alternative.

I turned to silicone which ended up solving my problems. I took the plaster molds and then made silicone. There is a particular measurement, some people would use a scale…others FORGET ABOUT IT! Just depends what kind of person you are. Tony helped me with the measurements, there was no scale…

Tony Richards

A few sides notes about Tony Richards…

He is my favorite art teacher/ mentor. He knows how to have fun and be creative. He is down-to-earth, free-spirited, mellow (not a crazy or extreme) artist. A man of many trades. Tony loves the ocean, surfing, sailing, and the work he does. He is grounded and a gem. Tony teaches printmaking and ceramics at Miracosta but most importantly he’s the man the fixes everything! He has been there forever, he started out there as a student and still is one. Tony is really good at sharing, helping, listening, building, and anything else you can think of…he is a man of many, many, many trades.

Tony loves getting creative with food too!
